The Sports Equipment Equity Act
The Seva Project is committed to creating lasting change in our community and beyond. Our newest project of 2023 includes working with Senator Troy Singleton's office to co-author the "Sports Equipment Equity Act", which will ensure that students in New Jersey have access to the necessary equipment for participating in school sports. As part of Avani's final Capstone Research Project, she developed and refined the Pilot Program that will be implemented once the legislation is passed in the New Jersey Senate. Learn more below about the project and how you can get involved!

Pilot Program

Application Process
Interested school districts will need to provide relevant information justifying the district's need for the proposed program. Details on the availability and quality of existing athletic program equipment and resources in the district should be provided.
Selection Process
Applications will be scored based on meeting the necessary criteria:
-
need justification
-
equipment assessment
-
geographical representation
-
estimated budget
Higher scores will increase the likelihood of selection. Six school districts then gain the ability to work with the Commissioner's office to receive the allocated grant funds and initiate the pilot program.
